Reading through the comments I am struck by how pissed supporters of some campaigns are that their candidate did not win tonight and saying how this is an indication that the Republicans will win or that the corporate media has taken over, blah, blah, blah.
Let's all grow up; we all think our candidate is the best and want he or she to win. But the bottom line is that every single one of the Democrats is far better than anything the Republicans have...
...and world's better than what we are living through now.
I've been working in campaigns for 20 years now (and I'm 37, so I've been in it since high school) and the last week has been more amazing than anything I've ever witnessed. We have 4 (really more) great candidates, all of whom would make a great president. We've not had that in my lifetime.
We all want our candidate to win every primary and get every vote. It's not going to happen. Let's not get so caught up in our guy or gal and get pissed off when it doesn't happen. These things are marathons, not sprints, so do not burn out and think in absolutes about your opposition. I would wager that supporters of each campaign agree on 90-95 percent of the issues and we are going bat shit crazy on a very small percentage. As someone who protested in Texas against the war and was in print and on television fighting against it, I truly believe that all three of the top candidates will get us out of there, and quickly. Let's not kill each other over this issue as this is not 1968.
Tonight is a good thing. Our side of the campaign is generating excitment and news the rest of the way. It is making our candidates better. Hillary has improved in a week. Now it is Obama's turn. Can he get back up? I think so. We cannot shoot each other and get pissed off before the real battle begins, which is the fall.
I'm for Edwards and it doesn't look like it is going to happen. That's ok. He's talking about issues I believe need to be brought up nationally and I hope he continues to do so as long as he has that drive.
I have some problems with Obama, but will happily vote for him in the general if I get that chance.
I have some problems with Clinton, but will happily vote for her in the general if I get that chance.
Change is going to happen, if we put aside our differences at the end of this primary and unite behind one of these great candidates.
Keep fighting for your candidate. Keep screaming for your priorities. Keep working to get your man or woman the nomination. But, whatever you do, please, please, please do not take these things so personally that you lose sight of that which we are fighting for.
Together we're all going to change the direction of this country, but it will take all of us to take a deep breath and get back together.
